The Story

Challenge

March of Dimes Canada Non-Profit Housing Corporation (NPHC) is a not-for-profit charitable organization that offers people with physical disabilities a single solution for support, care, and accessible, affordable accommodation since 1992. It manages five housing facilities in Ontario, with one them located here in Sarnia named Standing Oaks. NPHC’s Sarnia facility, Standing Oaks, is a supportive housing program and has been in operation since 2004. It’s a six bedroom facility for the medically fragile, with 24 hour on-site attendant care offering accessible, affordable, supportive housing for people with very high level care needs that would otherwise only be available through hospitals or personal care givers. Standing Oaks is truly a home, and like any home, certain amenities need upgrading. After 12 years of use, their old hydrotherapy tub needed to be replaced at a cost of $22,000.

Solution

After successful fundraising efforts, The Community Concerns for the Medically Fragile and the March of Dimes raised $12,000. Our foundation help bridge the funding gap by providing a donation of $10,000 to help purchase the new hydrotherapy tub. The hydrotherapy tub is used daily by all persons residing at Standing Oaks. All individuals residing in the home have multiple complex needs, and the aqua-therapy provided by the tub is both relaxing and therapeutic to those with limited/restricted muscle movement and control.
