The Story

Challenge

Kenwick on the Lake Park is a beautiful, family friendly park located on the shores of Lake Huron in Brights Grove, Ontario. Established in 1946, the park was once home to the Kenwick on the Lake dance pavilion, where Sarnians could enjoy bands conducted by names like Guy Lombardo, Tommy Dorsey, Louis Armstrong and Glenn Miller. In 2013, the park received a major renovation after it was selected for a sponsorship through TVO’s “Giver” Playground Makeover Program. Unfortunately, after the renovations were complete there were problems with vandalism. It was determined that there wasn’t adequate lighting located in the park to help deter vandals.

Solution

With the help of the foundation’s $12,000 donation, as well as support from Bluewater Power and Sarnia Parks & Recreation, the Kenwick on the Lake Park Committee installed solar powered high-efficiency LED lighting. The lighting is maintenance free and has been successful in reducing the likelihood of vandalism.
